Virtus Audio Apex

Dynamic · Resolving · Musical

Engineered to impress.

Musicality and resolution can co-exist. The Apex is built around that formula.

Virtus Audio Apex — Amber CIEM
Universal or Custom

Two ways to fit.

  • Apex IEM — universal fit

IEM $1,299

Universal

Our one for all formula. The Apex in universal version features our comfort-optimised shell and in-ear pressure balancing mechanisms. Optimal seal is achieved through the included Divinus Velvet eartips, developed alongside the tuning. For listeners who want the Apex without the impression process. The Apex tuning, in the form that adapts to any ear. No matter the size.

  • Apex CIEM — custom-molded shell

CIEM $1,499

Custom

Each shell is handcrafted from physical impressions of your ear canal for optimal isolation and acoustic consistency. Custom Apex features an integrated acoustic wax guard system at the nozzle exit, protecting the tubeless architecture without obstructing the acoustic path. Built from medical-grade acrylic, our expertise gets you the best seal possible with up to 32 dB of passive isolation.

Engineering Philosophy

Testing the limits of psychoacoustics.

The industry treats driver counts as a substitute for acoustic architecture. We reject that approach. Unmanaged internal volume in large handcrafted shells creates parasitic resonances and group delay. The conventional fix is to choke the airflow with narrow silicone tubing. We engineered the exact opposite. The Apex internal cavity is mathematically calibrated to the suspension compliance of our co-axial array. We harness the physical volume to amplify acoustic scale, maintaining absolute transient control without artificial restriction.

Driver Architecture

Co-Axial Driver Array.

The Apex utilises a hybrid material approach for its 2-way co-axial array. The 12mm low-frequency driver features a Crystal-Graphene diaphragm, while the 7mm high-frequency tweeter uses a pure Beryllium dome. We selected these materials for their exceptional rigidity and low mass. By mounting the 7mm Beryllium tweeter at the acoustic centre of the 12mm Crystal-Graphene bass driver, we achieve a true point-source radiation pattern. High and mid/low frequencies reach the eardrum as a single, unified wavefront.

Tubeless Venturi Canal

Pushing massive low-frequency energy through narrow plastic tubing creates high acoustic friction. It acts as an artificial choke point, softening transient impacts and introducing standing waves. The Apex eliminates this bottleneck entirely. Built on principles of fluid dynamics, our tubeless Venturi canal manages internal air velocity and pressure gradients to drop acoustic friction to near zero. The driver breathes naturally within the cabinet. It delivers raw, unrestricted bass output with immediate, hyper-fast decay.

Acoustic Tangent Waveguide

Rather than letting sound waves spray chaotically and reflect off internal walls, we engineered a mathematically calculated exit path. The waveguide directs the acoustic wavefront along a smooth, tangential curve straight to your ear canal. It prevents the internal diffraction and reflections that occur in standard tubular designs.

Helmholtz Resonator

Standard acoustic dampers fix treble peaks but choke the airflow, killing air and detail. We handle the acoustic energy inside the enclosure differently. Our integrated chamber is tuned to a precise air volume to act as a selective filter. It neutralises unwanted resonances through destructive interference.

Virtus × Divinus

Smooth as velvet, divine as Apex.

We tested countless eartips and nozzle geometries during development. Sound is the only metric that dictates our choices. The Divinus Velvet tips delivered the exact acoustic synergy the Apex required. The exceptional comfort was simply the final requirement met.

Internal Engineering

The Apex features a dedicated in-ear pressure release system. This port functions as a pneumatic relief valve that equalises the air pressure between the ear canal and the external environment. This eliminates the "ear-suck" sensation and prevents pneumatic pressure from dampening the eardrum, allowing for extended listening sessions without acoustic fatigue.

The ventilation system is engineered to provide atmospheric pressure balance for the co-axial dynamic drivers. By equalising the pressure on both sides of the Crystal-Graphene diaphragm, we eliminate "driver-flex" (the clicking sound upon insertion). This free-moving environment allows the bass driver to reach its full excursion potential without mechanical strain.

A standard passive crossover network interacts with source impedance, often shifting the intended signature. We engineered a high-precision 2-way crossover integrated with linear impedance technology to eliminate this variable. Our Impedance Matching Optimisation ensures the Apex maintains a flat, consistent frequency response across a wide range of source output impedances. Whether you are using a portable DAP, a high-power desktop amplifier, or a streaming dongle, the sound signature and crossover behaviour remain completely identical.

Human hearing is non-linear. Most systems require high volumes to achieve tonal balance. Below that threshold, bass recedes and the signature thins. The Apex maintains its intended bass body and proportionality at any level. This is achieved through acoustic engineering rather than mid-bass compensation. The pressure release port and impedance optimisation prevent the signature from shifting. As volume increases, the bass scales linearly without compression or saturation. It performs consistently from the first click to the last.

Signal integrity is preserved within the shell using UP-OCC Copper Litz wiring. The Ultra-Pure Ohno Continuous Casting process, combined with an insulated multi-strand Litz structure, maximises conductivity and minimises high-frequency signal loss. An integrated anti-oxidation shield ensures long-term electrical stability.

Every electrical connection in the Apex is fused using Mundorf M-Solder. This specific alloy is utilised for its ultra-low noise floor and superior joint integrity. By maintaining consistent conductivity across every contact point, we prevent signal degradation and ensure long-term reliability of the internal circuitry.

Sound Philosophy

At Virtus Audio, our purpose in designing the Apex was to overturn the conventional "reference" notion that strips music of its soul. Many of the standards taken as correct in this industry are illusions, built to mask the mechanical shortcomings of the devices themselves. Sound cannot be reduced to frequency graphs on paper. It is alive, carrying within it the breath of the artist, the timbre of the instrument, and the energy of the music itself.

We reject the saying so often repeated in the audio world: "There is no bad equipment, only incompatible systems." A genuinely well-engineered product should never push its listener into an endless search for new gear to compensate for its own deficiencies.

With this conviction, we set the old patterns aside. After hundreds of tests and detailed acoustic analyses, we re-modeled the mechanical and electronic structure of the device around the natural behavior of real instruments, with the sole aim of driving the weaknesses and structural compromises of conventional systems to zero.

Every problem that suffocates sound or pulls it away from its natural character has been answered through the new reference standard we built for ourselves. What the Apex represents is not an incremental improvement. It is the reconstruction of sound: the transparent, lossless signal path that professional hi-end studios require, combined with the engaging, alive listening experience the dedicated music lover is looking for. Apex delivers the energy and emotion of the recording in their purest form, without filters, with every bit of its life and energy preserved.
